English or Czenglish - Jak se vyhnout čechismům v angličtině – Sparling Don (2022)

The first edition of the book English or Czenglish appeared more than thirty years ago. Its success was immediate, and since then it has remained the most popular guide on how to speak English correctly. However, the knowledge of English among Czechs and the English language itself have changed significantly over the past thirty years. It was therefore clear that the book needed a substantial revision. The new and revised edition differs significantly from the original version. One of the main changes is that the entire text is in English rather than in Czech as in the original edition. The authors believe that this choice is justified given the often very good knowledge of English in the Czech Republic today. They have updated the examples illustrating the correct use of individual language phenomena and added many authentic excerpts taken from literary works, historical texts, scholarly articles, media, and popular culture. They removed some outdated entries and added new, current ones. In creating the entries, the authors consulted online corpora to verify how words and structures are used in real, living language.
