Description

Do you notice the sculptures in Brno? Did you know that the University Campus Bohunice is actually a remarkable sculpture park? And are you familiar with the new sculptures in the streets of the city? Masaryk University has published, under the patronage of Mayor JUDr. Markéta Vaňková and Rector Prof. MUDr. Martin Bareš, Ph.D., the second expanded edition of the Czech-English book Sculptural Brno 1989-2019. The first chapter presents the cycle Sculptures for Brno (sculptures dedicated to personalities connected with the city's history, such as W. A. Mozart, J. Skácel, T. A. Edison, etc.). The second chapter introduces the sculptures in the Masaryk University campuses, the third documents the sculpture symposiums, and the fourth recalls the international exhibition Brno Art Open / Sculptures in the Streets. A new chapter titled What the City Has Done Wrong reflects on the challenging role of the city leadership in supporting sculptural art. The book, in a representative graphic design, presents 179 photographs of a total of 130 works and 100 brief profiles of sculptors on 290 pages. A schematic map shows the distribution of the sculptures. The first edition from September 2019 was already sold out by spring 2020.
