Description
Error analysis in the transitional language system of Czech and Slovak university students of Spanish as a foreign language. The monograph follows the interlanguage corpus of Czech and Slovak students of Spanish at the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University. It focuses on the analysis of errors in written expression and aims to uncover their stereotypical prevalence and development throughout the bachelor's degree. The research is based on essays processed within the language seminar courses I–IV (2014–2017). All lexical and grammatical errors were classified, creating a 'grammar of errors.' Most errors exhibit universal learning strategies regardless of the students' native language. The influence of Czech and Slovak languages is more evident in lexical errors, which are caused by different interferences, borrowings, and faux amis. Another difference between Slovak and Czech students is the greater extent of their essays. The written expression of Slovak students is bolder in the choice of more complex language structures.
