Description
The book "Forms of Czech Literary Reportage" represents an attempt to map the genre of Czech reportage. In the introductory part, the author applies literary science methods developed for the analysis of fictional prose to reportage and examines whether and to what extent reportage meets these criteria. The work focuses on key personalities and phenomena in the development of Czech-written reportage from the antecedents of the genre in the 19th century through its peak flourishing in the 1930s and early 1940s to the 1980s. Through these examples, it seeks to highlight the inspiring and limiting influences of literary and especially social development that affected reportage in the Czech lands. The core of the work lies in the effort to show how individual creative personalities, very different in their authorial types, responded to the development and limitation of reportage possibilities through their work. Emphasis is placed on capturing the diversity and variety of formative procedures and forms that Czech reportage consequently created.
