The presented monograph introduces a network of texts ranging from the conception of Russian literature in the works of two founders of Slavic studies, particularly literary history, through Karamzin's establishment of modern Russian literature to the contribution of 'foreigners' to the formation of both classical and modern Russian literature, concerning both the luminaries of Russian classics such as A. S. Griboedov, F. M. Dostoevsky, M. Gorky, and the long-forgotten N. S. Leskov, as well as Czech perspectives on the newer literature of the second half of the 20th century (V. Rasputin, J. Vodolazkin) or the influence of Russians or more generally Eastern Slavs in interwar Czechoslovakia (Alfred Bem, Valerij Vilinskij, son of the contractual professor at Masaryk University, Sergij Vilinskij) and insights into a period that has been inaccurately termed the 'period of stagnation' ('period zastoja'), as interesting discussions with value shifts, which often had a key influence on further Russian development, also emerged during this time.
