Description
Experiments with plant hybrids. A new translation with commentary. Thanks to his experiments with pea plants, first presented in 1866, Gregor Mendel is commonly referred to as the father of modern genetics. But was it really his intention—to discover the laws of inheritance and the specific properties of genes—or was this motivation attributed to him retrospectively based on current knowledge? These questions have been the subject of a long-standing discussion among historians researching the natural sciences, with the central theme being the translation of Mendel's original work into English. His new translation, accompanied by an extensive commentary published by the Mendel Museum with the support of the British Society for the History of Science, aims to provide valuable, significant, and new insights that contribute to the long-term task of understanding and comprehending Mendel.
