Description
Between Memory and Erinnerung. Czech Places of Memory in Teaching German as a Foreign Language. The presented textbook provides authentic materials for Czechs learning German as a foreign language at the B2–C1 level. It opens various perspectives beyond the usual language teaching and accompanies students in acquiring new knowledge. Based on living places of memory with their deep, branching roots, it realizes a dialogical, 'German-Czech remembering' that enables cooperation, encourages dialogue, and thematizes historical connections as well as the explosive components of memory rich in conflicts. It offers a spectrum of topics ranging from sports places of memory represented by, for example, the European Football Championship in 1976, racing legends František Šťastný and Stefan Bellof, hockey international Jaromír Jágr, to phenomena of modern history such as the Prague Spring and the Student Movement, and literary artifacts, notably the famous character of Hašek's good soldier Švejk.
