Description
Austrian Archives: History and Present. The Republic of Austria is today a relatively small state. Until 1918, however, Austria-Hungary was a significant power. The Austrian archives, therefore, due to their size and historical significance, are among the richest in Europe. This collective publication presents the history and present of Austrian archiving first in a brief overview, and then in detail through the example of 16 institutions: all four departments of the Austrian State Archives, selected regional, municipal, university, church, and private archives. The authors of the individual chapters are current or former archivists of the respective archives. The book is primarily intended for students of history and archiving, as well as professional historians and archivists from all successor states of the Danube monarchy.
