Description

The monograph deals with the evaluation of the scientific legacy of Jiří Levý, the founder of Czechoslovak translatology. The collective monograph is the work of eleven authors from the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The book, composed of ten chapters, clarifies J. Levý's innovative contributions in the field of translation theory and the ideas of his successors, presents the inspirational nature of J. Levý's translatological concepts for translation criticism and praxeology, assesses Levý's literary-theoretical thinking in relation to information theory, philosophy, and literary aesthetics, and finally shows the significance of his innovative thinking for translation didactics. J. Levý's theoretical concepts exhibit extraordinary anticipatory potential due to his interdisciplinary consideration of communication, literature, and culture from the perspectives of linguistics, literary studies, and cybernetics. Through this thinking, Jiří Levý was ahead of his time. In the collective monograph, the authors attempt to explore selected aspects of the researcher's work and assess their significance for the work of today's theorists, educators, and translation practitioners. The editors of the volume are Zbyněk Fišer and Ivana Kupková.
