Description
At the founding of Masaryk University, historical disciplines were most strongly represented at its Faculty of Arts. This year's centenary offers a unique opportunity to reflect on the transformations that historical disciplines have undergone during the first century of the university's existence. The historical seminar gradually separated, and alongside it, other seminars and institutes closely linked to history and its methods emerged – art history, archaeology, museology, archival science, and auxiliary historical sciences, ethnology. The authors of the presented publication were driven by the desire to answer questions about the significance of the mentioned Brno seminars in the history of science and education in both domestic and international contexts, what personalities emerged in Brno, and what external influences affected the institutional formation of historical disciplines at the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University. The publication is therefore divided into three parts: Institutional Development; Personalities; Tradition, Innovation, and Projects.
