Description
Through so-called 'myths,' the authors attempt to uncover several issues of universities that are historically significant for the European (Central European) environment, particularly for the Czech context. The aim of historical research in the field of university culture is to highlight both the continuity and discontinuity in the development of universities, from their medieval beginnings to the present day. The authors juxtapose the image of old medieval universities and the myths surrounding them with the real functioning of today's higher education institutions. They remind us how university education was understood in the medieval period or the 19th century and ask whether today the influences of politics and economics have penetrated schools to such an extent that they have transformed their internal structure and goals.
