Description

The monograph deals with the topic of translating verse from Spanish to Czech based on a comparison of the original verse and the translated verse. The aim was to analyze Calderón's polymetric plays from a verse perspective, compare the Spanish and Czech versification systems, and subsequently analyze the strategies of Czech translators. A key part of the monograph is a comparative versological study that employs statistical methods of verse analysis. The final chapter is dedicated to the adaptations of texts during the dramatization of plays. The author reveals, through the example of one selected translation, how theater directors reduce and modify the original text, which serves as the basis for various productions in several Czech theaters. Despite the translator's precise formal solution, the resulting productions do not respect polymetry and severely disrupt both strophic and non-strophic forms.
