Description
Parasyntesis represents a special and debated mechanism of word formation among linguists, from both a synchronic and diachronic perspective. Therefore, in addition to detecting and identifying parasynthetic neologisms in so-called modern Spanish, the author proposes in her monograph a model that offers a coherent approach to the issue. It is based on recent theories formulated from the perspective of paradigmatic morphology and the theory of lexical motivation. Based on these two theories, she developed a model of paradigmatic organization of the lexicon. This model takes into account the influence of foreign languages along with extralinguistic factors and also presents the lexicon as a complex network of paradigms and relationships formed within and between these paradigms. The author's analysis shows that neologisms can be the result of the mutual cooperation of three basic relationships (motivations): intralinguistic, interlinguistic, and superstructural motivation.
