Description
The most evidence allowing us to understand the religion of the Hurrian population, which inhabited the regions of the ancient Near East in the past, comes from the 2nd millennium BC. However, the early period of Hurrian history and their religious beliefs, which can be dated to the 3rd millennium BC, is less explored. The book maps this stage through material culture and written sources from the site of Tell Mozan, where the ancient city of Urkesh was located. An important complement to this approach is data from other areas. It is clear that the oldest known Hurrian cultural elements were significantly represented in Urkesh, although Akkadian influences are not negligible either. Based on discoveries made so far, religious elements associated with the city are identified, and those that can be characterized as Hurrian are pointed out.
