Description
The monograph in the field of onomastics and translatology seeks to provide a comprehensive view of the somewhat neglected issue of the transfer of proper names, known as proprials, between Czech and Russian, and partially between English and Russian. In the introduction, the author describes the methods of transferring proprials, some of which are taken from existing literature, some are newly introduced, and some are modified (especially the rules for transcription from Czech to Russian have been criticized and revised). Subsequently, it establishes which method of transfer is suitable for the respective type of proprial and text genre. The appendices to the work include the most commonly used transcription and transliteration tables. The work is intended for translators, Russian studies scholars, Czech studies scholars, journalists, travel agency workers, and anyone who encounters texts containing foreign Russian and Czech proprials.
