Description

The work focuses on love poetry of the late and final Middle Ages in the lands of the Czech Crown and in German-speaking countries within the time frame of 1200–1500. In this comparative study, highlighting the fundamental similarities of both lyrical directions based on motif and conceptual similarities, the aim is to determine the typology of individual genres of lyrical creation in the given period in both languages and in the mentioned linguistic areas. The central point of the research is to answer the question of the extent to which Old Czech poetry exhibits similarities with older types of lyrically written German songs, oriented according to the principles of 'minnesang', which persisted in various forms in the German linguistic area until 1400, or whether Old Czech love lyrics are more aligned with the younger layer of German love lyrics that replaced 'minnesang' after 1400 and no longer focus on the central theme of older songs, whose basic motif is the lament of unheeded and unhearing love.
