Description
This book contributes to the study of the history of modern urbanism and spatial planning. Its main subject is environmentally friendly thinking, brought together under the concept of organic modernity. The text begins with the origins of modern Czech urbanism and spatial planning, traces developments during the interwar period, and examines environmentally friendly studies and concepts during the Second World War, as well as changes brought about by the socialist system in planning and construction. It then turns to the theoretically and practically rich 1960s, ending in 1968. The book shows that environmentally friendly tendencies in Czech and Slovak urbanism and spatial planning have taken many forms and variations, and also have a deep-rooted tradition.
