Description
Fantasy literature is today an influential cultural phenomenon. The ambition of this study is to initiate a broader discussion about fantasy literature and to highlight the issue of its reflection. The work summarizes possible approaches to defining fantasy in the Czech and global context, more closely delineates the conditions necessary for considering the fantasticality of a work, and proposes a definition of fantasy based on Wittgenstein's concept of family resemblances, prototype theory, architextuality, and fuzzy sets. The second part of the book presents a two-tier typology based on the function of the fantastical element. Firstly, it distinguishes two categories of the fantastical according to the level of integration of the fantastical element, taking into account both textual and extratextual aspects, and subsequently differentiates three fuzzy sets based on the key functions of the fantastical element in relation to the current world.
