The ivory work known as the Diptych of Five Parts, now housed in the treasury of the cathedral in Milan, occupies an exceptional place in the context of early Christian art. The presented book aims not only to critically revise existing hypotheses about its dating and provenance but also to clarify its artistic role, identify a possible commissioner and the reason for its creation, and establish its art-historical and cultural-historical significance. The publication is bilingual – featuring both Czech and English texts – and includes a rich visual appendix.
