Description
The frequently used, yet content-wise unstable term new media overlaps more or less with the designations network media, interactive media, or perhaps most accurately, digital media. From an academic perspective, it represents a broad interdisciplinary metadiscipline. The author of the 'Notes' has been studying new media for several years and with his book, which is based on his dissertation, he aims to create a firmer theoretical foundation for the field. His text summarizes the historical and epistemological roots of new media studies and their development, and subsequently formulates a theoretical concept of new media. This takes the form of a three-dimensional model derived from Anthony Giddens' structural theory and is intended to serve as a non-reductionist interpretative framework allowing for the analysis of new media as a complex phenomenon.
