Description
The book on traditional Indian acting focuses on a specific form of communication between the actor and the audience – the language of mudras, which are generally characterized as symbolic hand positions. This is a unique communication system capable of expressing any thought or emotion. The research results in this area are based on ancient Indian and modern theatrical literature in Sanskrit, English, and possibly French, primarily on poetics and acting manuals, as well as on the contemporary practice of traditional Indian theater or dance forms, which the author studied during a research trip to India – mainly the practices of Kerala's theatrical activities, particularly the theater of koodiyattam and kathakali.
