Description
The monograph focuses on the analysis of one significant aspect of Czech word order in its earlier developmental phases. Enclitics represent a phenomenon that lies at the interface between the phonetic and grammatical structure of the language and is a popular subject of interest in contemporary linguistics due to a number of universal linguistic mechanisms affecting word order. The work is divided into chapters dedicated to individual types of so-called permanent enclitics: ancient particles ť (ti/tě) and li, forms of the auxiliary of the preterite and conditional, short pronoun forms that have a long (stressed) variant, and the adverb/conjunction však. The work is based on a material analysis of a private corpus of printed monuments of various genres published between 1620 and 1775.
