Description

The book is published in the series Figures of Moravian Archaeology, vol. 3, which also defines its character. Within the biography of Palliardi, attention is drawn to his advocacy and cultural-political activities in his main workplaces (Znojmo, Moravské Budějovice), his personal characteristics, and especially his scientific work in the field of archaeology. During his stay in Znojmo, he studied the stratigraphic conditions of cultural layers around the rotunda at Znojmo Castle and in 1888 discovered in Znojmo-Novosady and scientifically evaluated the Neolithic culture with the so-called Moravian painted pottery. During his notarial work in Moravské Budějovice, he examined the strata at the "Old Castle" near Jevišovice and based on his evaluation laid the foundations for the periodization of the Late Stone Age (Chalcolithic) in the Central Danube region.
