Description
This book focuses on two basic areas: the spiritual world of traditional China and its material culture. The individual studies discuss Chinese philosophy and religion, medicine, the arrangement of the home, and the crafts for which China became famous, including porcelain, silk and papyrus production. This seemingly surprising combination of topics offers a new perspective on the foundations of Chinese culture and shows how religion and philosophy were reflected in everyday life. The individual essays are written by renowned sinologists. Most of the articles on crafts were prepared by Zlata Černá, a long-time curator of the Chinese and Vietnamese collections and the collection of Lamaist art at the Náprstek Museum in Prague.
