Description
The history of the field of zoology at Masaryk University in Brno is introduced with basic information about the status of biology in the Czech lands at the beginning of the 20th century and the conditions for the establishment of Masaryk University, including the Institute of Zoology. The following chapters discuss the gradual development of zoological institutions in six historical stages from 1920 to 2003. A brief overview of current specializations developed at the university within zoology also serves as a summary of the results achieved in both scientific-research and pedagogical fields. The final chapter presents a vision for the future development of university zoology in Brno. The history is supplemented with 63 photographs, a historical overview of zoologists working at the Faculty of Science in Brno, and a list of theses from zoology since 1952.
