Description
A love story set against the dramatic backdrop of German history from the late 19th century to the 1970s. Olga is an orphan from a poor background, Herbert is the son of a rural landowner; both stand out from the rural environment in which they grow up, and it is precisely their differences that bring them together. He fights in the colonial army in Africa and wants to explore the Arctic for the glory of Germany. On the polar expedition, he disappears without a trace. Olga's love for Herbert, however, endures until her death, even though she holds ideals that are opposite to Herbert's; the idea of a Greater Germany terrifies her. And when she dies, her love and secrets resonate into the present.
