Description
In the novel A Horse Walks into a Bar, leading Israeli writer David Grossman launches a linguistic fireworks display that touches the very essence of the human soul. One hot August evening, a bitter, aging entertainer named Dovík G. appears on stage at a small-town club with his stand-up show. After a while, instead of cheap jokes, he begins to recount a strange story about the first funeral of his life: a long journey to the memorial service during which he did not know who among his loved ones he would find on the gurneys. The smiles of the audience in the hall freeze, the evening begins to resemble a brutal reckoning – with Dovík, with the audience, and with a deeply damaged society. Until the curtain falls.
