Robinson Crusoe – Defoe Daniel (2022)

It would be hard to find a reader who has not known – mostly in adaptations or retellings – the core of this classic work of English literature since childhood. And how many various Robinsonades have been inspired over the centuries by Defoe's colorful depiction, which was created in 1719. The story of "the strange and wonderful adventures of a sailor from York" transcends its era: we read it as an immortal tale of human courage, resilience, and curiosity. Robinson Crusoe was first translated into Czech as early as 1797, but a reliable translation did not appear until a century later, with newer versions coming out in 1920 and 1933. Czech readers now have a new modern translation by Martin Pokorný in their hands.
