Description
Bea lives with five-year-old Agnes in an overcrowded city choked with smog. Agnes suffers from a persistent cough, and Bea is visibly deteriorating. Air pollution has exceeded a tolerable level, but no one is addressing the related health issues. Where else can they go when, apart from the City, there is only the Wilderness, the last strip of wild nature? Their only hope lies in a change of environment, and so Bea resolves to take extreme measures – participating in a research study to determine whether people can live in the wild without leaving irreversible traces. 'The New Wilderness' presents an apocalyptic vision of a world thrown out of balance, grappling with the consequences of climate change and overpopulation. At the same time, it is an empathetic study of the relationship between mother and daughter under extreme circumstances and the functioning of human nature in survival conditions.
