Description
The leader of young London thugs, Alex, spends most of his time consuming drugs, mugging defenseless victims, and listening to Beethoven's music. However, he is arrested and forced to undergo a 'therapeutic' experiment that is in many ways as cruel as his hooligan past. The excess of violent scenes, however, is not a self-serving, cheap provocation in Burgess's work – it forms an integral part of a narrative that is as gripping as it is original. The film adaptation directed by Stanley Kubrick only underscores this cult work.
