Description
A poltergeist is a loud paranormal phenomenon, the spirit of a house that manifests through unexplained movements of furniture, noises behind walls, or spontaneous explosions. It feeds on fear and loneliness, anxiety and isolation. The titular figure and unexpressed subject of Martin Poch's fifth poetry collection terrorizes unsuspecting residents, leaving behind tangible traces that may be remnants of a marital quarrel, a natural disaster, or a deadly struggle, but above all expresses a forgotten connection that we understand when the poltergeist appears in the mirror. This is perhaps the darkest of the author's collections, placing poetry within the romanticizing genre frames of B-movie horror, sci-fi, and social ballad in four consecutive sections dedicated to childhood, marriage, old age, and death. Above all, it is poetry as a question: Is it you, the one behind the wall? Show yourself, we are going to the carnival. – But I don't want to die yet!
