Description

The prose debut of an American poet is a powerful statement about our present, shaped and driven by the moody world of social media – that hyperreality, biting its own tail, which, through the democratization of voices in the public space, the relativization and emptiness of concepts, influences events in the real world. The book is divided into two parts, which are diametrically different in focus, juxtaposing the real and the virtual worlds. In fact, they represent yin and yang, interconnected vessels, two sides of the same coin. The first part depicts the life and thoughts of the main heroine, whom we might label as an influencer. These are fragments of real events, their reflections in new media, and musings through which the heroine comments on the happenings around her. In the second part, the perspective shifts: the heroine's sister is expecting a child affected by Proteus syndrome, which has no chance of long-term survival. Everything shrinks down to a hospital room, to a deep experience of the present, an effort to capture, perceive, and imprint every second into memory. All of this is conveyed to us through sensitive inner observations, so contrasting with the exaggerated bombast of the heroine's virtual world.
