Description
Finnish writer Sofi Oksanen stunned the world with her third novel, Purge (2007, Eng. 2010), which was also successfully adapted into a film. The theme of strong female protagonists continues in her latest work, though it addresses them in a somewhat different way. The business of egg donation resembles the exploitation of women as seen in her recent novel, Norma. A young Ukrainian woman, Olenka, narrates how she rose from being just an egg donor to a coordinator for a company that seeks the highest quality candidates and recruits them much like a modeling agency. But then something goes wrong – and Olenka must flee to Finland. Yet, the past catches up with her there as well.
