Description
It is the year 1988, and nineteen-year-old Karl Ove arrives in rainy Bergen after a summer journey through Europe with great expectations. He is one of the few students accepted into the Academy of Creative Writing, and it seems he is just a step away from his dream of becoming a writer. However, he soon realizes that reality does not match his expectations, neither in terms of the tumultuous life in the 'big city' nor regarding his studies and the start of his literary career. The atmosphere of the university town, his feelings of social exclusion, alcoholic excesses, sexual experiences, romantic relationships and cohabitation, the daily routine of studying and working—all of this is viewed through the eyes of a nineteen-year-old boy in an exceptionally authentic, honest, and ruthlessly open manner.
