Description

A young man with an overtly feminine nature, fragile, shy, modest, completely inexperienced, and raised very strictly by a pair of bigoted sectarians, encounters a woman in her so-called prime at a corporate party, playing in an all-female band, with a colorful past, tall, strong, and dominantly versatile, who strikingly resembles her instrument - the helicon, which the encyclopedic dictionary describes as a bass form of the tuba, used in marching music. A bizarre couple meets, where everything seems to be completely reversed. And since his frantic story reaches its midpoint during the great social upheaval of 1989, the existential grotesque transforms primarily into a social one, as its heroes fall from the mud into the puddle from real socialism to no less real capitalism, in both cases of Czech origin. The book, whose first part was created a quarter of a century ago in a difficult time 'to amuse friends,' was completed by the author after his nine mostly dramatic novels 'to amuse himself at a time when Czechs proudly demonstrate to the world that they can remain a developing country even after the fall of communism.'
