Description
The Interpretation of Dreams (in the original German, Die Traumdeutung) is a book by the founder of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud. The Interpretation of Dreams is one of Freud's most famous books. It was first published in 1899 by Franz Deuticke. However, the publisher planned the book for the year 1900, which is why the first edition bears that date. Distribution, however, began at the end of 1899. The book is considered a key work of Freud's, as it contains not only a description of the technique of dream interpretation but also definitions of the concepts of consciousness and the unconscious (in later editions, the preconscious) and also the so-called Oedipus complex. In the book, Freud primarily analyzes his own dreams, and The Interpretation of Dreams is thus one of the key informational sources for Freud's biographers, as he systematically destroyed other possible sources. The book struggled to gain traction with readers for a long time, selling just over 300 copies in the first ten years.
