The book describes the life period of a young woman marrying for love, which soon turns into bitterness. Alice marries her boyfriend Richard Skála when she discovers she is pregnant. They cannot live with her parents because they lost everything due to her brother, so they start living in the villa of Richard's mother in the small town of Javorov. Their cohabitation begins to show initial cracks, and when Richard unexpectedly announces at Christmas that he is going to Afghanistan on a military mission, the crack becomes the largest. Alice is left with their small son in her mother-in-law's house, who does not make the situation any easier for her, and she tries to find a way out of seemingly insurmountable troubles. Without wanting or planning it, she meets her fateful love, Pavel. However, they do not have it easy; both have other partners and a sense of moral duty. Their love is strong and intoxicating, but just as painful and consuming. At first, they try to resist this great feeling, but they realize that they do not want to be without each other. Moreover, the time is approaching when Richard will return from Afghanistan. But it will be a completely different Richard than the one Alice knew....
