Description
The publication provides a systematic and simultaneously completely unique overview of the use of Il-2 Sturmovik aircraft outside of the Soviet Air Force. The focus of the work is the description of the deployment of these aircraft in the Polish, Czechoslovak, and Yugoslav air forces, starting from organization and training to combat application during and after World War II. The history of post-war service is always brought to the definitive retirement of the type in the respective country. There is also a brief mention of peacekeeping missions in the Bulgarian and Mongolian military air forces. A bonus includes information about the testing of captured aircraft in the German Luftwaffe, the Hungarian Royal Honvéd Air Force, and the Finnish Ilmavoimat. The text is complemented by nearly a hundred photographs and eight color illustrations.
