Description
This Czech-language guide first appeared around 1900 and was successful in its time. Translated from German into Czech, it may present today’s reader with more than a few linguistic surprises. The first part offers instructions for preparing and using medicinal plant remedies, while the second focuses on treating various illnesses with simple, readily available means. It contains numerous suggestions for home treatment with herbs, which the author considers more beneficial, effective and efficient than chemical substances. The guide lists toxic and non-toxic plants and treatments for a range of ailments, from corns and loss of appetite to measles, epilepsy and gout. For each condition, it presents a traditional herbal remedy involving roots, flowers or oils prepared as teas, infusions or compresses. Readers gain an insight into medical methods used at the beginning of the twentieth century, inspired by experience with the healing properties of nature.
