Description
The main task of the Soviet Air Defense's fighter component was to intercept and destroy enemy aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles. The first jet fighters in the Air Defense's arsenal were the MiG-15 and MiG-17; specialized all-weather interceptors soon followed: the MiG-17PF and MiG-17PFU. Supersonic MiG-19PMs and twin-engine long-range interceptors Yak-25/25M soon followed. In the following years, the Air Defense used supersonic interceptors including the Su-9, Yak-28, Tu-128, and MiG-31. The book "Soviet Air Force Air Defense Images from 1945-1991" details the history of the Air Defense during the Cold War, some combat actions, the combat composition, and the types of aircraft that served in the Air Defense. The text is supplemented by more than 400 photographs and 50 color drawings.
