The Jeep is a true legend. Its name has become synonymous with dangerous adventurous expeditions on and off the road and unmatched combat capabilities. The Jeep excelled in robustness, practicality, and uncompromising functionality. Because of this, it played a significant role in military history starting from World War II. The Jeep was constructed in 1940, at a time of acute need for military off-road vehicles. It was designed based on the specifications for a new universal vehicle (General Purpose, abbreviated as G.P., spelled "jeepee" in English, hence Jeep). The new vehicle had four-wheel drive, was three-seater, with space for mounting a 7.62 mm machine gun. Its payload was 250 kg, and its top speed was around 50 km/h. The new vehicle became the most successful off-road vehicle of all time. Its design inspired many other types of off-road vehicles. Jeeps served in the armed forces of countries around the world for nearly half a century.
