The name of the German photographer Heinrich Hoffmann is closely associated with Adolf Hitler. He originally considered a career as a painter, but already during World War I, he established himself as a recognized photographer. In 1920, he joined the NSDAP and soon became not only Hitler's personal photographer but also his guide and friend. ***** He is the author of more than two million photographs of Hitler taken between 1920 and 1945. From these photographs, he compiled a series of overtly propagandistic publications, whose sole purpose was to uncritically glorify the 'leader' as a wise father and savior of the German nation. One of them is the volume Hitler in His Mountains, praising the leader and Reich Chancellor amidst the romantic scenery of Bavaria's Obersalzberg, whether he is walking through the mountain landscape, talking to locals, or receiving important guests. ***** The book is published without any corrections, edits, or accompanying commentary as a memento of an era whose dark outlines have permanently etched themselves into the history of Europe and the entire world.
