Description

Here, the author recounts the nearly seventy-day defense of the city of Odessa, where one of the first battles of World War II took place, shattering the myth of the lightning occupation of the Soviet Union. Odessa was initially bombed by the Germans, and despite its defense, it was occupied by the German army on October 16, 1941, after the retreat of Soviet troops to Crimea. The Red Army, led by Odessa native Rodion Malinovsky, fully regained the city on April 10, 1944.
