Description
As climate change makes it essential to ensure stable and functional forest stands, the forestry community is increasingly interested in using tree species that are not native to the region. The need to replace existing monocultural stands with more stable ones is likewise encouraging efforts to expand the range of species capable of withstanding today’s turbulent environmental conditions. This publication therefore aims to summarize the available knowledge on introduced tree species that can be used in forestry practice. Alongside Douglas fir, grand fir and northern red oak, it also analyzes less widespread species. It presents the current state of knowledge concerning their ecological requirements and cultivation possibilities, while also outlining the potential risks associated with introducing new species into forest stands.
