Description
This Czech-language collection presents philosopher Tomáš Hříbek’s accessible essays in four thematic sections: a defence of atheism and secularism, current moral questions viewed from a purely secular perspective, an argument for the principles of egalitarian liberalism, and a defence of science against its traditional and postmodern opponents. The texts are revised versions of shorter essays published in the Orientace supplement of Lidové noviny and other periodicals, alongside previously unpublished pieces. With the author’s direct yet philosophical approach to subjects including atheism, euthanasia, same-sex marriage, the ethics of smoking, immigration, hate speech, feminism, climate change and scientism, the book is distinctive in the Czech context. The final section consists of interviews with leading international intellectuals, including philosophers Daniel Dennett, Peter Singer and Susan Schneider.
