Description
This Czech-language book explores the Paleolithic in the Czech lands, where, over several hundred thousand years and against a backdrop of changing climates, migrations of human populations, the final stages of biological evolution, technological innovations and changing artistic styles all intersected. These events may have been no less dramatic than those recorded in later chronicles and documents. Leading experts combine research from the natural sciences with Czech Paleolithic archaeology. Compared with earlier works by V. Ložek and J. Svoboda’s collective, the book draws on deeper and broader field and laboratory data, includes additional types of organisms, and incorporates developing disciplines such as human paleogenetics. It is published both to mark the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the Venus of Dolní Věstonice and in the year of the discovery of a new mammoth site in Ústí nad Labem.
