Description
The book with a paleontological theme is a temporal continuation of the previous successful title Lost Seas in the Heart of Europe (Academia 2003). It takes us back to the late Paleozoic era, 330-295 million years ago, when the expanding Gondwanan glaciers and Variscan orogeny pushed the sea out of Bohemia, allowing trilobites to make way for tropical forests of giant clubmosses and horsetails. Against the backdrop of the formation of the supercontinent Pangea and the rhythm of climate changes, we learn how animals and plants coped with these events and how the landscape changed over tens of millions of years. We will look into the late Paleozoic when coal was still green and the Czech lands lay on the equator. This richly illustrated book, featuring photographs of fossils and paleogeographic maps, is intended for both amateur enthusiasts of paleontology and students of natural sciences as well as professional geologists.
