Description
The atlas showcases the diversity and richness of large fungi in Central Europe. The basic number of 1,206 depicted taxa is supplemented in the notes with more than 800 additional ones. In terms of the number of species, the book is among the most extensive mycological guides in Europe. General chapters address the external and internal structure of fungi, their ecology, threats, and protection, discuss nomenclature, toxins, colors, tastes, and smells, and provide advice for identifying fungi, their collection, and use in the kitchen. The descriptions of fungi include information necessary for their identification. Illustrations depict the typical appearance of the fruiting bodies of individual species. Many fungi can only be reliably identified microscopically, which is why the descriptions contain data on the most important microcharacters. Information on edibility, inedibility, or toxicity is also included.
