Description
The fourth volume of collected Czech folk tales and humor brings another part of the magical stories from the narrative area of supernatural adversaries. The reader will find, for example, the popular plot about the wizard's apprentice, tales about a young man who wants to experience fear, the notoriously known adventures of Jeníček and Mařenka, stories about a brother's encounter with a monster, the adventures of Honza and his magic beans, and especially the very popular and richly represented plot about the blacksmith and his repeated outsmarting of death. Like the previous volumes, this one also contains translations of the relevant stories from Czech Germans. Each fairy tale is supplemented with information about the storyteller and the place of recording (if known) as well as a scholarly folkloristic commentary.
