Description
This Czech-language scholarly monograph brings together revised and supplemented contributions from a conference held by the Department of Czech Studies at Palacký University’s Faculty of Arts and the Institute for Czech Literature of the Czech Academy of Sciences on 26–27 April 2022. The conference marked the 140th anniversary of the birth of Bohumil Markalous, also known as Jaromír John (1882–1952), and the 70th anniversary of his death. The first part assesses Markalous’s work in aesthetics, education and journalism, including editions of his correspondence and memoirs, while the second offers interpretations and contemporary evaluations of John’s literary work.
